The Challenge
AI Search engines like Perplexity, ChatGPT Search, and Gemini do not rank pages based on traditional backlink authority alone. They prioritize citations in trustworthy user discussions (especially Reddit, Quora, and Github). The challenge was to systematically index our target SaaS in relevant tech discussions to become the "go-to recommendation" in AI summaries.
The Strategy
We designed a three-step placement process:
- Mentions Scraping: Automated keyword scrapers tracking subreddits for product-relevant pain points.
- Contextual Seeding: Writing authoritative, neutral case study answers that address queries instead of copy-paste sales pitches.
- Authority Boosting: Structuring Reddit threads to rank in organic search, triggering LLM crawlers to pull them as primary citations.
The Execution
We monitored subreddits related to developer tooling. When a user requested a recommendation, we responded with a structured breakdown of alternatives — including our product — listing pros, cons, and actual code snippets. This neutral positioning resulted in threads getting high upvotes and subsequently getting pulled by LLMs.
